What the roof analyzer can tell you
- How many reference solar panels Google's model can place on the roof.
- Approximate maximum array size and annual DC solar energy captured by that layout.
- Modeled roof and array area plus the building ground footprint.
- Roof-segment direction, pitch and relative annual sunshine.
- The date and quality of the imagery used for the building analysis when available.
A roof that can physically fit a large solar array does not necessarily need one. Final system size should also consider annual electricity consumption, utility rules, export compensation, planned EV or heat-pump loads and installer engineering.
South, east and west roof planes are not equivalent
Azimuth changes both annual production and when solar energy arrives during the day. Use the visual orientation guide to understand the difference before interpreting individual roof segments.
Trees, chimneys and dormers can reduce usable solar exposure
The address model can identify roof geometry, but nearby trees and structures can create time-dependent shade that needs separate interpretation. Review the visual shading guide before treating the modeled roof area as fully sun-exposed.
