Why we built it
Residential solar decisions are unusually fragmented. A homeowner may need electricity-rate data from one source, solar-production estimates from another, state incentives from another, manufacturer specifications elsewhere and several installer proposals before the economics are clear. Home Solar Atlas brings those layers together in one research workflow.
Who the site is for
Our primary audience is U.S. homeowners evaluating rooftop solar, home batteries, EV charging and related home-energy decisions. The site is designed for people who want to understand the numbers before speaking with a salesperson or signing a financing agreement.
What we are not
Home Solar Atlas is not a utility, government agency, solar installer, lender or manufacturer. Calculator outputs are planning estimates, not installation quotes, engineering designs, tax advice or financial advice.
How we stay useful
We separate source data from assumptions, show editable inputs where possible, link to primary sources, publish methodology notes and avoid silently treating statewide averages as household-specific facts. When a more precise source is available, such as ZIP-specific PVWatts production, we prefer it over a generic national assumption.
Editorial independence
Advertising may support the site as it grows, but advertisers do not set calculator assumptions, equipment specifications, editorial conclusions or news coverage. Paid placement is not used to change factual rankings or the underlying methodology.
Current stage
Home Solar Atlas is being built as an expanding data portal. We are continuously adding state coverage, utility and incentive research, equipment records, homeowner tools, original pricing data and homeowner-focused solar news.
