A $30,000 proposal is not automatically expensive and a $20,000 proposal is not automatically cheap. System size, battery scope, roofing, electrical upgrades and financing can make total prices impossible to compare directly.

What can make a higher-priced quote reasonable?
- Complex roof geometry, steep pitch, multiple roof planes or difficult access.
- Premium modules, microinverters, batteries or longer equipment warranties.
- Main-panel upgrades, trenching, structural work or other electrical scope.
- Local permitting, interconnection and labor conditions.
- Stronger workmanship warranty or service capability.
A benchmark is a comparison point, not a verdict. A proposal far above the local range deserves an explanation; a proposal far below it deserves verification that scope and equipment are truly comparable.

Should I compare total price or price per watt?
Use both, but $/W is better for comparing systems of different sizes. The total still matters for budget, financing and payback.
Can financing inflate the quote?
Yes. Dealer fees and other financing costs can increase the financed contract price. Ask for a cash price and compare APR plus total payments.
Is the cheapest quote automatically best?
No. Verify equipment models, production assumptions, permitting, interconnection, electrical scope, workmanship warranty and service support before signing.
